On paper it looks like the 2710 is slightly better. The 4200 is pricier. A 4100 is closer in price but the 2710 blows that one away (on paper). I will do mostly loader/driveway work. Possably mowing in a few years. The ???'s are to you current users, how do they compare? likes/dislikes? serviceability? Any help for a first time buyer.

Just got the 2710. Haven't had a lot of time to use it, but seems extremely well built. Did a ton of research, and Kubota stands head and shoulders above JD in terms of owner satisfaction (granted smaller sample size). Price is better too imo.
Personally, had some bad experiences with JD, so didn't even look at their stuff other than superfically. Did notice a lot of problems on the 4000 series in my travels. I feel they are really completely different co's: Kubota is growing a business in consumer products, and JD is milking one. What troubled me most was JD's move into low-end mowers (Home Depot Scott's and Sabre) vs. last forever machinery. Takes a different mindset, that will eventually turn-up in all their related products. The JD annual report also shows the focus--market share, profit, revenue to a fault. Also, Kubota does ALL their engineering and manufacturing--vs. outsourcing like JD--which makes managing trade-offs and improvements easier to affect.

What's amazing about that customer satisfaction is that there are more, not less, Kubota subcompacts sold! Thus, Kubota has a larger sample population (for compacts). I had heard this one before, but I couldn't find an independent validation, util recently. Note the third sentence of the article:

Thanks, both. I wish I'd a checked this sooner M.S. I just drove about 5 miles from Lennon today!
Seems JD is into price fixing or pressure the dealers into a fixed range for some models. 4 daelers are within $400 on the same tractor where the orange ones vary $1800 for the same model! ....

I have owned three brands and IMO, the Kubota is better in more ways that matter, than some others. I am not sure as to the ease of loader removal on the 2710, but I can tell you it is much more machine than the 4100 I owned. If you have followed this board, you will see the problems I have had with my NH. A nice tractor, but mine isn't a good example. The operator features swayed my decision to go with NH, not price. I looked at Cub Cadet, they appeared to be well built. Their implements are made by Woods. A point made by M Sullivan is valid. Kubota is the only machine I know of that is made by the people that put their name on it. The one I had was smaller but an excellent machine. I would trade my 21,000 NH with 7hrs for a 2710 if I could find a dealer to do it. The Kubota sells for about 2k less, simularly equipped. I'm still kicking myself in the butt. By the way, I did try to trade back for another JD before opting for the NH, they were way out of line in their pricing. If you are in NY, I know of a great Kubota dealer. ....

Cutter, you say you don't know about the ease of removing the loader from the B2710. I checked the clock in my shop building one day, and found that if I'm in no hurry at all, it takes me 2.5 minutes to remove or hookup my loader. It's a darned sight quicker and easier than changing an implement on the 3-point. John Deere and New Holland are good tractors, but no way would I trade my Kubota for either one. ....
